Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Sierra Leone\u2019s Vice President, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh recently received the Final Report from the EU Election Observation Mission regarding the country\u2019s 2023 General Elections.<\/p>\n

In response, Vice President Jalloh shared his initial thoughts on the report, expressing concern about its content and focus.<\/p>\n

Vice President Jalloh\u2019s perspective is that the report appears to lean more toward a political interpretation of the elections rather than a technical analysis. He believes that the report should primarily serve as a technical tool to help identify institutional, legal, and operational shortcomings in the electoral process, with the aim of improving future elections. However, he expressed his view that the report contains numerous normative assertions and lacks in-depth electoral analysis, which could potentially compromise its quality.<\/p>\n

One of Vice President Jalloh\u2019s points of contention is the presence of inconsistencies and a shortage of clear evidence in the report.<\/p>\n

He questioned the interpretation of statements such as \u201cdivisive online communication… created insecurity for rural voters\u201d and noted that four out of the seven priority recommendations in the report are political in nature. His concern is that this shift towards political considerations may diminish the technical value of the report.<\/p>\n

Drawing on his experience and knowledge gained from organizing elections in both Africa and Europe, Vice President Jalloh emphasized the importance of producing high-quality reports rooted in a sound technical and analytical understanding of elections, particularly in the context of EU Election Observation Missions.<\/p>\n

While expressing gratitude to the EU Election Observation Mission for their efforts, Vice President Jalloh also expressed his commitment to further engagement with the European Union. He aims to collaborate in strengthening Sierra Leone\u2019s electoral system, potentially leading to improvements in the quality and focus of future election observation reports.<\/p>\n
