Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>President Bio has on the 14th November, 2023 engaged the chairperson and other senior members of the Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone to discuss Crucial Human Rights Issues.<\/p>\n

<\/a>President Bio also called on a collective effort from everyone to ensure Nation Building. The discussion also recorded critical matters related to human rights and the commission\u2019s operations in the country.<\/p>\n

The discussions covered three crucial issues ranging from the Commission\u2019s re-accreditation process, the 75th International Human Rights Day Celebration, and a review of the Commission\u2019s Act and logistical challenges.In her statement, Madam Patricia Narsu Ndanema, the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, HRCSL, emphasised the importance of the ongoing re-accreditation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis step ensures that the commission maintains its credibility and effectiveness in promoting and protecting human rights across the country,\u201d she said, adding that Sierra Leone already had the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2022 in place and would continue to seek funding to sustain the Commission\u2019s operations and fulfil its mandate.<\/p>\n

President Bio thanked the Chairperson and members for keeping him updated and working for the people of the country, adding that, there is need to elevate Sierra Leone\u2019s standing on the global stage, emphasising that it would take a collective effort to address the nation\u2019s challenges.<\/p>\n

He revealed that, the country\u2019s return as a non-permanent member to the UN Security Council, starting in January 2024 and serving for a two-year period, would provide a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to international peace, security, and development.\u201cWith more eyes on the nation, Sierra Leone can play a vital role in shaping global discourse on human rights and other critical issues,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
