Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>A total of 235 registered Local\/International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) moved a vote of no-confidence in the Sierra Leone Association of Non Organizations (SLANGO) Board. This move was made in accordance with Article 8 of the SLANGO Constitution.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The Concerned Members, in an extraordinary meeting, also moved to elect an Interim 9-Member Body to steer the SLANGO ship to the AGM, which is to be held not later than 40 days from now. The purpose of the AGM is to elect a substantive Board and regularize the recruitment and committees recruitment.<\/p>\n

The 235 concerned NGOs\/INGOs also resolved to suspend the recruitment of the National Coordinator until they meet in the upcoming AGM. Therefore, the existing status-quo remains.SLANGO is a consortium of NGOs both National and International, whose primary role is to ensure cooperation among its members. SLANGO also serves as a unified voice of the NGO community in Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

The vote of no-confidence and the suspension of the recruitment of the National Coordinator are significant developments in SLANGO. These actions reflect the concerns of a large group of NGOs regarding the leadership and governance of the organization. It is unclear what impact these developments will have on SLANGO\u2019s ability to effectively carry out its mandate.<\/p>\n

The Concerned Members have called for an AGM to be held not later than 40 days from now. The AGM will provide an opportunity for all SLANGO members to discuss the concerns that have been raised and to elect a new Board. It is important that all SLANGO members participate in the AGM in order to ensure that the organization is able to move forward in a positive direction.<\/p>\n
