Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Contrary to a previous report by Sierraloaded that the former President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma was placed under house arrest; it has been confirmed that the nation\u2019s former leader is only under increased security protection.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Speculations about house arrest arose after heavy security presence was seen at his Goderich residence shortly after interrogation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Freetown. However, the former president\u2019s office and government officials have clarified that he requested additional security following his interrogation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday.<\/p>\n

Information Minister, Chernor Bah told Umaru Fofona that the former president only requested additional security which he said had been duly provided to him.Similarly, Ady Macauley, one of the former president\u2019s legal representatives, Ady Macauley denied any such restriction on his movements.<\/p>\n

Ernest Bai Koroma, who served as president from 2007 to 2018 is being investigated concerning the foiled attempted coup on November 26 in which many of his former bodyguards have been implicated.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Twitter after his interrogation on Friday, the former president expressed his strong condemnation of the violent events of November 26 and reaffirmed his commitment to Sierra Leone\u2019s peace and democracy. He emphasized his willingness to cooperate fully with the police investigation and underscored the importance of upholding due process and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

Following a comprehensive interview with the police, Koroma stated that he maintains an open mind and trusts that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with legal procedures. He thanked his supporters for their unwavering support during this challenging time.<\/p>\n

The interview with the former president is scheduled to continue tomorrow, December 9, as the police seek to gather all relevant information to bring those responsible for the coup attempt to justice.<\/p>\n
