Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Responding to a police invitation, Sierra Leone\u2019s former president, Ernest Bai Koroma, appeared at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown on Friday, December 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

<\/a>This marks his first interaction with authorities since the events of November 26, where a group of armed individuals attempted a coup d\u2019e\u0301tat.<\/p>\n

Koroma, who served as president from 2007 to 2018, was summoned by the police to assist in their investigation into the failed coup. He arrived at the CID accompanied by his legal team led by Attorney Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara.Speaking on Twitter after his interrogation on Friday, the former president expressed his strong condemnation of the violent events of November 26 and reaffirmed his commitment to Sierra Leone\u2019s peace and democracy. He emphasized his willingness to cooperate fully with the police investigation and underscored the importance of upholding due process and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

Following a comprehensive interview with the police, Koroma stated that he maintains an open mind and trusts that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with legal procedures. He thanked his supporters for their unwavering support during this challenging time.<\/p>\n

The interview with the former president is scheduled to continue tomorrow, December 9, as the police seek to gather all relevant information to bring those responsible for the coup attempt to justice.<\/p>\n
