Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>In a recent press release, the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) highlighted concerns over the restriction of citizens\u2019 rights in Sierra Leone following the failed coup attempt in November 2023.<\/p>\n

<\/a>While acknowledging the severity of the security crisis, CHRDI urged the government to ensure any emergency measures taken are proportionate, necessary, and non-discriminatory.<\/p>\n

The CHRDI emphasized that while national security is crucial, it shouldn\u2019t come at the cost of citizens\u2019 rights. The organization urged authorities to uphold constitutional provisions safeguarding freedom of movement, speech, and assembly. Additionally, CHRDI urged citizens to refrain from violence and encouraged the government to investigate the coup attempt and unlawful killings.<\/p>\n
