Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Conrad Sackey, concluded a meeting on December 11, 2023, with members of WAEC, principals, and blind and visually impaired pupils to address the challenges faced in the education system.<\/p>\n

<\/a>This came up during an engagement held with cross section of visually impaired students and their parents, on current challenges ranging from high demands of unjustified fee from parents, limited materials and access for challenging pupils etc, face in the education system and their hopes for the future.<\/p>\n

The engagement was represented by representatives of MBSSE, WAEC, Secondary School Principals and blind and visually impaired pupils. During the dialogue, different concerns, opinions, solution and preventive actions were highlighted and discussed to further mitigate the challenging issues raised by concerns parents and pupils.<\/p>\n

The Minister, Conrad Seckey, and all represented party, agreed to review the reasonable accommodation provisions available to these pupils including the provision of assistive technologies, so that they can access the curriculum, adjustments for both in-class and national exams, and timely identification and disclosure of these pupils\u2019 disabilities so that WAEC can put in place the modalities to meet their diverse needs.<\/p>\n
