Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>In a press briefing at the residence of the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Kelfala Marrah, a representative of the Opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) in the Electoral Reform Committee addressed the media on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Marrah highlighted persisting challenges in implementing Resolution 4, focusing on critical issues like the release of detained individuals, discontinuation of politically motivated cases, and support for displaced persons.<\/p>\n

Despite acknowledging initial progress, Marrah pointed out obstacles, particularly in establishing the Committee of Moral Guarantors. The APC representative discussed the aftermath of the June 24, 2023 elections, marked by transparency concerns and the Electoral Commission\u2019s refusal to publish results. The APC\u2019s decision to withhold participation until demands were met led to ECOWAS mediation, resulting in progress but leaving major issues unresolved.<\/p>\n

Marrah emphasized the APC\u2019s reliance on government cooperation, political will, and support from partners to address outstanding resolutions. Recently, the APC presented an action plan for accelerated coordination, monitoring, and real-time reporting through a dedicated online platform.<\/p>\n

Addressing the UN Permanent Representative, Marrah noted progress in Resolution 3 involving the review of the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

He expressed hope for positive collaboration in the remaining five months of the Committee\u2019s work. The APC representative outlined the terms of reference, underscoring the commitment to a thorough and cooperative process to clear doubts surrounding the compromised 2023 elections.<\/p>\n
