Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Women\u2019s Forum for Human and Democracy (WOFHRAD) conducted a one-day training for councillors in Bombali District.<\/p>\n

The session, held at the SLTU Hall in Makeni on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, was facilitated by Aiah Sourie, Senior Public Education Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission Northern Regional Office.<\/p>\n

Mohamed Steven, a Field Officer of the \u201cSupporting gender equality and social accountability through a strengthened civil society\u201d project, emphasized that this refresher training aimed to enhance efficient service delivery by councillors from both Makeni City and Bombali District Councils. Steven highlighted the importance of accountability among authorities, stating, \u201cThis training is to refresh their minds, as they are authorities that should be accountable to the people they are representing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aiah Sourie, Senior Public Education Officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission Northern Regional Office, addressed prevalent forms of corruption, including misappropriation of funds and abuse of office for personal gains. He underscored the timeliness of the training in Sierra Leone\u2019s fight against corruption, particularly in preventing such acts.<\/p>\n

Hassan Manga Turay, a Councillor at the Makeni City Council, commended WOFHRAD for its impactful activities, acknowledging their efforts in capacitating councillors in various areas, including gender and corruption. \u201cWe are impressed with the activities of WOFHRAD,\u201d Turay emphasized.<\/p>\n

As WOFHRAD continues its commitment to fostering good governance, the training marks a significant stride in equipping local leaders with the knowledge and tools to uphold integrity and accountability in their roles.<\/p>\n
