Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Sierra Leonean pro-democracy activist Lawyer Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah is criticizing Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh\u2019s recent statement regarding bail for those arrested with Kush, a substance linked to several youth deaths.<\/p>\n

Lawyer Marrah replied to a post by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education on X commonly known as Twitter which reads, \u201cFrom now henceforth, anybody who is arrested for kush will not be granted bail.\u201d This quote was extracted from the Vice President\u2019s speech on the launching of an investigation at the Nation Kush Townhall organized on Kush.<\/p>\n

In his reply to the post, Lawyer Marrah highlighted his concerns about the Vice President ordering the seizure of bail to persons found in possession of Kush.<\/p>\n

Lawyer Marrah took to social media to express his concerns about the Vice President\u2019s directive. \u201cThe Vice-President is a respected figure,\u201d he said, \u201cbut he may have made this statement out of a misunderstanding of Sierra Leone\u2019s legal system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe right to bail is presumed under the Constitution and can only be restricted by a judge or magistrate, not by elected officials or political appointees.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marrah, known for his vocal advocacy on legal and human rights issues, emphasized that bail is a fundamental legal right in Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n
