Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Sierra Leone\u2019s President Julius Maada Bio has made it clear that he has no intention of seeking a seven-year term in office, nor will he pursue a third term.<\/b><\/p>\n

Bio made this statement during his address at the Special Presidential DEPAC Meeting convened to review Sierra Leone\u2019s 1991 constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not seeking a seven-year term, nor am I considering running for a third term. As I have consistently emphasized, upon leaving my presidency, my aim is to establish laws that will strengthen the democratic future of our nation,\u201d Bio declared unequivocally.<\/p>\n

In his address, President Bio underscored the historical significance of the ongoing Constitutional Review Process, which has been a collective endeavor spanning nearly two decades. He emphasized that this process is not merely a revision of legal documentation but a transformative journey aimed at reshaping the future of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

The President stressed the importance of ensuring inclusivity and responsiveness to the evolving needs of society, ensuring that the Constitution remains a dynamic reflection of the nation\u2019s values and aspirations.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on Sierra Leone\u2019s journey since the adoption of the current Constitution, President Bio highlighted the imperatives for a comprehensive review, acknowledging the imperfections inherent in any document and the evolving nature of societal needs.<\/p>\n

President Bio reiterated his unwavering commitment to concluding the Constitutional Review Process, a pledge he made during his candidacy for the presidency in 2018. He recalled the genesis of this process, stemming from the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) following the civil war, and affirmed his administration\u2019s dedication to fulfilling this mandate.<\/p>\n
