Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq, the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has announced plans for the privatization of the National Stadium upon its completion, marking a significant shift in leadership strategy after 43 years.<\/p>\n

The decision aims to transform the stadium into a self-sustaining entity capable of generating income independent of government funding. Dr. Abdulai highlighted the potential for new opportunities through privatization while ensuring the facility\u2019s long-term viability.<\/p>\n

In terms of usage, priority will be given to football, deemed a politically significant sport. The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) will be required to pay for the stadium\u2019s use during Leone Stars\u2019 matches and other international football events. Additionally, fees will be implemented for other sporting disciplines utilizing the stadium, with revenues deposited into the Basket Fund.<\/p>\n

The comprehensive renovation plan includes the installation of plastic seats at the pavilions, extending the timeline for completion beyond the initial agreement. This renovation represents the most extensive overhaul of the stadium since its construction in 1979, with even the Practicing Field receiving a complete makeover.<\/p>\n
