Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Former Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney has been appointed manager of Plymouth Argyle, the second-tier Championship club said.<\/b><\/p>\n

Plymouth Argyle earlier signed Sierra Leone striker Mustapha Bundu from Belgian side Anderlecht.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old, who has won 14 caps for his country, signed a two-year deal with the Pilgrims. Bundu will now play under the leadership of his new coach, wayne Rooney.<\/p>\n

Bundu\u2019s football journey began at Craig Bellamy\u2019s Football Academy in Freetown and included spells with Hereford, AGF Aarhus and latterly Anderlecht.<\/p>\n

According to Reuters Rooney replaces Ian Foster, who was sacked in April after just three months in the job. Argyle finished 21st in the Championship standings, avoiding relegation by one point.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the interview process, Wayne showed himself to be a passionate, intelligent, and knowledgeable candidate with an appetite to prove himself and develop his managerial career,\u201d Argyle chairman Simon Hallett said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much so that he reached out to the board when we started this process and was attracted by the project at hand and showed a real plan on how to lead the football club forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rooney has previously managed Birmingham City, Derby County and Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking this role at Plymouth Argyle feels like the perfect next step in my career \u2013 and I would like to thank the chairman and board for the faith they have shown in me,\u201d Rooney said in a statement.<\/p>\n
