Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All People\u2019s Congress (APC), Sidi Yayah Tunis, has told Concord Times on phone that the Moral Guarantors, including ECOWAS, UN, and AU have promised to facilitate a meeting between the APC and the Government of Sierra Leone to address certain issues in relation to the implementation of the tripartite committee\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Sima\u0303o, together with the former Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Fatoumata Jallow- Tambajang, arrived in Sierra Leone on October 14 to monitor the implementation of the National Unity Agreement signed between the main opposition All People\u2019s Congress (APC) and the Government of Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, had in consultations with Leonardo Santos Sima\u0303o, deployed the joint Monitoring Mission of the International Moral Guarantors to Sierra Leone from 15-18 October 2024, on the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity.<\/p>\n

The Mission, which is co-led by Leonardo Santos Sima\u0303o and Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, former Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, is backstopped by experts from the respective institutions, including the Commonwealth and the country\u2019s Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC).<\/p>\n

The Mission yesterday held consultations with the leadership of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party at the party\u2019s headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown.<\/p>\n

According to the Sid Tunis \u2018the meeting was satisfactory because we were able to present our concerns regarding the implementation of the National Unity Agreement and the recommendations of the tripartite committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a party, we are not satisfied with the composition of the steering committee set up by the government to implement the tripartite recommendations. We also have issues with the framework for the implementation of the recommendations and we made that, clear to the moral guarantors who have promised to facilitate a meeting between us and the government,\u201d said Sidi Tunis.<\/p>\n

The mission will also meet with other political parties, leadership of the national parliament, the judiciary, including the hierarchy of the Security Agencies, the Electoral Commission, the Political Parties Regulation Commission, as well as with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) among others.<\/p>\n

The Mission will engage stakeholders on progress made in the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity as well as actions being taken concerning the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee\u2019s Report.<\/p>\n
