Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Ahead of the International Fact-Checking Day on April 2, google and its fact-checking partners will add a new \u201cHighly cited\u201d label to search results that will enable users to find the original source of a trending story.<\/p>\n

The company has said that it aims to detect and limit the number of misinformation online. It will also help people identify news and regular stories that have been frequently cited by other news organisations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis label will appear on Top Stories. You will be able to find it on anything from an investigative article, to an interview, an announcement, a press release, or a local news story, as long as other publishers indicate its relevance by linking to it,\u201d said Nidhi Hebbar, Product Manager at Google.<\/p>\n

Google also suggests that Searchers familiarise themselves with its Fact Check Explorer tool , which enables users to search for any topic that they have questions about, and cross-references over 150,000 fact checks to provide more context.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re particularly interested in the potential to elevate original reporting, making it even easier for people to discover and engage with the publishers and journalists whose work brings unique value to a story.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Top stories, You will be able to find it on anything from an investigative article, to an interview, an announcement, a press release or a local news story, as long as other publishers indicate its relevance by linking to it.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say a local news organization breaks an investigative story looking into problems at your local school district. The story is so big that it gets picked up by numerous other media outlets. But what if you didn\u2019t see that original story, which had unique context for local residents?<\/p>\n

Google will introducing a way to help you identify stories that have been frequently cited by other news organizations, giving you a simple way to find the most helpful or relevant information for a news story.<\/p>\n
