Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has expressed gratitude for the public\u2019s support and outlined the Freetown City Council\u2019s (FCC) key achievements and plans for 2025.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the numerous challenges we faced, I am incredibly proud of what we have collectively achieved,\u201d declared Mayor Aki-Sawyerr. \u201cThrough the unwavering support of our residents, the generosity of our partners, and the tireless efforts of our dedicated team, we have made significant strides in transforming our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mayor highlighted several significant accomplishments in 2024, including:<\/p>\n

Improved Water Access:<\/b> Installation of 24 solar-powered water kiosks and the commencement of work on 44 additional water points across the city.<\/p>\n

Enhanced Infrastructure:<\/b> Completion of the new Wilberforce Market, construction of cemetery fencing, and the development of new schools.<\/p>\n

Urban Regeneration:<\/b> Initiation of the Central Business District Regeneration project and continued efforts in the \u201cFreetownTheTreeTown\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n

However, the Mayor acknowledged the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and the growing influence of the \u201ckush\u201d epidemic among youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are advocating for the devolution of crucial urban management functions to local councils, which will empower us to address these issues more effectively.\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to 2025, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr reiterated her commitment to creating 120,000 decent jobs for women and youth by 2028 through initiatives in climate action, heritage tourism, the digital economy, and human capital development.<\/p>\n
