Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has called on Sierra Leoneans to support football development, emphasizing its role in promoting peace, unity, and national pride.<\/p>\n

Kamara urged backing for individuals and clubs investing heavily in the sport, such as Junior Navo and other club owners, who spend billions of Leones each season to sustain football.<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball serves as a beacon of hope and peace in our country,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I was chairman of Bo Rangers, I invested a significant portion of my personal resources sometimes more than what I spent on my family. These are sacrifices we make to keep our youth engaged and society peaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Referencing Charles Darwin\u2019s theory of natural selection, Kamara warned against leaving young people idle. \u201cDarwin said it is the survival of the fittest. We don\u2019t want that situation in Sierra Leone. Supporting football keeps our youth active and hopeful,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Kamara also appealed to the government to strengthen support for the football sector and urged the Chinese Embassy to expedite the refurbishment of the long-delayed Siaka Stevens Stadium. \u201cThe delay is costly. Every time our teams play home matches in Liberia, the government spends $200,000 to $300,000. Sierra Leone deserves better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He concluded with a plea for the stadium\u2019s completion so national teams can once again play on home soil.<\/p>\n
