Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Sierra Leone on Sunday, 9th November 2025, united in solemn remembrance of its fallen heroes during the National Armed Forces Remembrance Day Service, held at the Cenotaph on George Street, Freetown.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, themed \u201cFor a Better Future, Remember Yesterday, Act Today,\u201d brought together Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh, senior government officials, diplomats, and top military officers to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for peace and freedom.<\/p>\n

The event commemorated Sierra Leoneans who served and died in World War I (1914-1918), World War II (1939-1945), the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991-2002), and other international peacekeeping missions.<\/p>\n

Vice President Juldeh Jalloh and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio led the dignitaries in laying wreaths at the Cenotaph in memory of the fallen heroes. The mood was reflective and emotional as veterans stood shoulder to shoulder with serving officers, families, and members of the public in a shared moment of national pride and remembrance.<\/p>\n

A minute of silence was observed to honour the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, a reminder of the price paid for Sierra Leone\u2019s peace and democracy. Speakers at the ceremony called for the preservation of unity, patriotism, and discipline as a living tribute to the nation\u2019s defenders.<\/p>\n

Following the ceremony, Vice President Jalloh shared his reflections on social media, writing:<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, I represented His Excellency Julius Maada Bio at the Remembrance Service in honor of War Heroes at the Cenotaph in Freetown. I had the great pleasure of engaging with ex-servicemen and women of the RSLAF. Their sacrifices and commitment to our nation\u2019s development is exemplary.\u201d<\/p>\n

He praised the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) for their professionalism and unwavering service to the country, describing the occasion as \u201ca solemn reminder of the bravery that secured our peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commemoration concluded with interfaith prayers and renewed commitments from government and partners to enhance the welfare of ex-servicemen, widows, and their families, ensuring that the legacy of Sierra Leone\u2019s heroes endures for generations to come.<\/p>\n
