Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, has spoken candidly about the challenges she faces in expressing her views within the Sierra Leone People\u2019s Party (SLPP), insisting that her honesty should not be mistaken for disloyalty.<\/p>\n

In an interview on AYV Television\u2019s Wake Up Sierra Leone, Dr. Bio acknowledged that speaking the truth often attracts hostility, explaining that she is not naturally diplomatic and does not \u201ctalk like a politician.\u201d \u201cI speak based on what I see, sometimes getting it right, sometimes wrong, like any human being,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rejecting claims that she considers herself perfect, the First Lady stressed that her openness should not be used against her. She expressed concern that while others in the SLPP are freely able to support candidates of their choice, she is often criticized for doing the same.<\/p>\n

Highlighting her commitment to the party, Dr. Bio noted that she is a paid-up member and one of the SLPP\u2019s major financial contributors. She dismissed the perception that her political engagement is symbolic or limited because of her status as First Lady. \u201cWhen I go around this country for the SLPP, it is not because someone carried me along,\u201d she said, emphasizing that her involvement is driven by personal conviction and dedication, not obligation.<\/p>\n

The First Lady also raised questions over her official standing within the party. She accused the SLPP of collecting dues from her under the Distinguished Chief Grand Patron category, a position party executives claim guarantees qualification for party leadership and the presidential ticket, yet she has been told she does not fall within this bracket.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bio stressed that, considering her long-standing financial contributions, she should qualify for the Distinguished Chief Grand Patron rank.<\/p>\n

She revealed that she has already paid her party dues in full up to 2030, insisting that her level of commitment should secure her standing within the party hierarchy.<\/p>\n
