Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Moyamba Solar PV Plant has been formally transferred to the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) following a high-level review of the facility, marking a step in Sierra Leone\u2019s rural electrification strategy.<\/p>\n

The inspection and handover were led by Deputy Minister of Energy II, Ing. Dr. Abdul Rahim Jalloh. The plant, commissioned by President Julius Maada Bio in December 2024, was built to improve electricity reliability in Moyamba District and to serve as a replicable model for other regions.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jalloh stated the project is a \u201cstrategic intervention to enhance rural electrification\u201d and support the broader Moyamba District Electrification Project. He emphasized the plant is intended as a template to accelerate reliable power access nationwide.<\/p>\n

The inspection team assessed plant performance and the closeout of the Operation and Maintenance period to ensure a smooth transition of operational responsibility to EGTC. Ing. Milton Ngegba, Director General of EGTC, thanked the Government of Sierra Leone, the World Bank, and UNOPS for delivering the project. He confirmed EGTC will work with the contractor and UNOPS to resolve any remaining technical issues.<\/p>\n

UNOPS, which managed implementation, facilitated the handover process. Ing. Rashid Bangura, Deputy Project Manager at UNOPS, explained that EGTC staff were embedded with the contractor during the O&M phase to build local capacity. Four quarterly inspections were conducted, with targeted steps taken to address critical issues before closeout.<\/p>\n

Local stakeholders reported immediate benefits. Community representatives, including Abu Mbogba, highlighted improved electricity supply supporting livelihoods and local economic activity by reducing outages.<\/p>\n

The handover positions the solar plant as a cornerstone of the government\u2019s Feed Salone agenda and energy sector reforms, linking infrastructure investment to economic resilience. With EGTC now assuming control, the focus shifts to maintaining uninterrupted power and documenting operational lessons for future renewable energy projects.<\/p>\n
