Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has officially suspended the All People\u2019s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone\u2019s main opposition party, for failing to pay fines mandated by the commission.<\/p>\n

In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the PPRC Executive Secretary, Olushogo A. David, stated that the suspension is the result of a violation of Section 39(1) of the Political Parties Act of 2022.<\/p>\n

The commission had previously set a payment deadline of February 10, 2026, which the APC reportedly failed to meet despite multiple reminders.<\/p>\n

The suspension is comprehensive and takes \u201cimmediate effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Until the fines are paid in full and a written clearance is issued by the PPRC, the APC is prohibited from:<\/p>\n

Holding political rallies or public meetings.<\/p>\n

Conducting internal or external elections.<\/p>\n

Carrying out any administrative or operational actions.<\/p>\n

The PPRC expressed \u201cgrave concern\u201d over what it described as a refusal or neglect to comply with the directive.<\/p>\n

The commission warned that the suspension would remain in force until compliance is achieved and urged the party leadership to treat the matter with \u201cutmost urgency\u201d to avoid further legal sanctions.<\/p>\n

In early February 2026, the PPRC announced that it had imposed fines totaling NLe350,000 on the APC for alleged violations of Section 39(1)(c) and 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act, which restrict the use of profane, provocative or inciting language in political discourse. The penalties relate to remarks attributed to APC officials during a mammoth meeting at Atouga Mini Stadium on January 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

The fines included a NLe150,000 penalty linked to statements by entertainer and APC member Zainab Sheriff, who has publicly confirmed on multiple media platforms \u2013 including EPIC Radio, Liberty Online TV and Truth Media \u2013 that she is a full member and supporter of the APC. Sheriff has rejected the PPRC penalty and announced plans to challenge the Commission in court if the party settles the fine on her behalf.<\/p>\n

The APC has not yet issued a formal public response regarding the suspension or the specific nature of the original fines.<\/p>\n
