{"id":55125,"date":"2026-02-13T16:55:45","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T16:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/pprc-extends-apc-national-executive-tenure-by-six-months"},"modified":"2026-02-13T17:47:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T17:47:21","slug":"pprc-extends-apc-national-executive-tenure-by-six-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/sierra-leone\/all-news\/pprc-extends-apc-national-executive-tenure-by-six-months","title":{"rendered":"PPRC Extends APC National Executive Tenure by Six Months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has granted a six-month caretaker extension to the National Officers, National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Advisory Committee (NAC) of the All People\u2019s Congress (APC), effectively aligning with arguments advanced by senior party stakeholder Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden.<\/p>\n<p>In a directive titled \u201cThe Directives of the Commission,\u201d the PPRC stated that the current NEC, NAC, other current officers of the APC and all other current elected bodies, \u201chaving triggered Section 39(5) of the Political Parties Act, 2022, shall continue to provide leadership for a period not exceeding six (6) months, from the date of the expiration of their three years\u2019 term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Commission further directed that should the six-month extension elapse before the party holds its National Delegates\u2019 Conference (NDC), the Interim Elections Management Committee (IEMC) shall continue with the conduct of elections.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the Leader of the APC in Parliament shall constitute five other Members of Parliament, representing each of the five regions of the country, who will be responsible for the administration of the party up to the NDC.<\/p>\n<p>The directive follows an 11-page Amicus Curiae brief deposited at the PPRC on Friday, January 30, 2026, by Dr. Blyden, who said she was intervening in her capacity as an Honorary Foundation Member of the APC and as a former litigant in the 2021 case of Alfred Peter Conteh versus the APC.<\/p>\n<p>In her submission, Dr. Blyden urged the Commission to approve a six-month caretaker extension for the party\u2019s National Officers, NEC and NAC. She warned that their immediate removal upon the expiration of their three-year tenure in February 2026 would create institutional instability within the party.<\/p>\n<p>Her brief sought to oppose complaints filed by Hon. Ambassador Alimamy A.
