Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The head of the Sierra Leone Police Family Support Unit (FSU), Superintendent Mohamed S.Y. Mansaray, has been awarded by UNICEF Sierra Leone for his leadership in child protection, marking the first time an FSU commander has received the accolade since the unit\u2019s inception.<\/p>\n

UNICEF recognized Mansaray for his efforts in safeguarding children\u2019s rights and his specific focus on combating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), child abuse, and exploitation across the country.<\/p>\n

Under Mansaray\u2019s command, the FSU\u2014a specialized unit within the Sierra Leone Police tasked with protecting vulnerable populations\u2014has undergone significant institutional reforms. According to the police, these reforms have enhanced the unit\u2019s operational capacity, streamlined investigative procedures, and shifted the force toward a more survivor-centered approach to justice and care.<\/p>\n

Since assuming leadership, Mansaray has been credited with strengthening collaborations between the FSU and both national and international partners. These improved partnerships have helped the unit better respond to sensitive cases involving minors and other vulnerable individuals.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the Sierra Leone Police media team described the recognition as both a personal honor for the Superintendent and a testament to the FSU\u2019s institutional growth, noting that the reforms have helped increase public trust in the unit\u2019s services nationwide.<\/p>\n

The UNICEF award sets a new benchmark for the FSU as Sierra Leone continues ongoing efforts to strengthen its national child protection systems and law enforcement response to gender-based violence.<\/p>\n
