Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>The main opposition All People\u2019s Congress (APC) has officially ended its nearly two-month boycott of governance, confirming that all elected officials will immediately resume their duties in Parliament and local councils.<\/b><\/p>\n

The announcement signals a major de-escalation of Sierra Leone\u2019s recent political standoff, following intensive negotiations mediated by international moral guarantors.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Epic Radio, Honorable Ibrahim Barrie confirmed the party\u2019s decision to return, characterizing the boycott as a success that \u201cyielded its desired result.\u201d Barrie noted that the APC secured \u201cmajor wins\u201d during the high-level talks, which were overseen by representatives from ECOWAS, UNOWAS, and the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party leadership will shortly release an official position calling on all elected APC officials who have been boycotting governance to resume their duties,\u201d Hon. Barrie stated.<\/p>\n

The opposition\u2019s return was first hinted at during the Truth Morning Devotion by senior APC figure Hon. Aminata Sesay, who publicly acknowledged that the party was preparing to resume its legislative responsibilities.<\/p>\n

The government has also verified the opposition\u2019s return. Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, issued a brief statement confirming the resolution of the political deadlock.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe APC has returned to governance effectively immediately, and that matter has now been laid to rest,\u201d Minister Bah declared.<\/p>\n

The decision comes just a day after the International Moral Guarantors issued a joint communique\u0301 urging the opposition to end its boycott. As part of the brokered agreement, the government and the APC have committed to restructuring the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) by the end of 2026, directly addressing the core grievance that initially triggered the opposition\u2019s withdrawal from governance.<\/p>\n

The end of the boycott marks a critical step toward restoring political normalcy and collaborative governance ahead of the 2028 general elections.<\/p>\n
