The management of Sierra Leone\u2019s Ministry of Health (MoH), led by the Minister of Health, Austin Demby, has commenced a two-day senior leadership retreat aimed at reviewing the sector\u2019s achievements, challenges and future opportunities for improving healthcare delivery across the country.<\/b><\/p>\n
The retreat, which opened at the Estuary Resort, brought together the ministry\u2019s top leadership, including the Deputy Minister, the Senior Permanent Secretary, the Chief Medical Officer and deputies, as well as programme directors and other senior officials.<\/p>\n
According to the Ministry of Health, the gathering is intended to provide a platform for leaders in the health sector to critically assess ongoing reforms and explore strategic approaches for sustaining progress in healthcare service delivery nationwide.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the opening session, Dr. Demby described the retreat as an important opportunity for honest reflection and collaboration among senior health officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis retreat is more than a meeting of our health management team,\u201d the Health Minister said. \u201cWhat we have here is an opportunity to speak fearlessly to each other with the singular objective of improving service delivery for the people of Sierra Leone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ministry highlighted several achievements that will be reviewed during the discussions, including the reported reduction in maternal mortality by more than 70 percent, the country\u2019s consistent vaccination coverage of over 90 percent, and ongoing investments in the construction of modern health facilities, training of healthcare workers, and the procurement of medical equipment, drugs and other supplies.<\/p>\n
Dr. Demby further stated that the retreat would allow ministry officials and clinical leaders to temporarily step away from daily operational pressures in order to focus on broader institutional priorities.<\/p>\n
According to him, discussions during the retreat will examine ways to strengthen public trust in the healthcare system, manage financial pressures amid global economic uncertainties, and improve staff productivity across the sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is also a moment for us to reimagine how to get the best possible output from our staff and expedite our journey towards digital transformation,\u201d Dr. Demby added.<\/p>\n
The opening session was facilitated by Emmanuel Gaima and Ansu Samuel Tucker, who guided discussions focused on identifying the ministry\u2019s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for growth.<\/p>\n
Dr. Gaima noted that such engagements are critical management tools for enhancing staff performance and improving service delivery across the health sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis management tool helps to improve staff performance and upscale service provision at every level of the sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
By the conclusion of the retreat, the Ministry of Health expects its senior management team to strengthen collaboration, improve organizational performance and enhance the quality of patient care in health facilities throughout Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
