The Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Sylvester Alpha, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, led a delegation of fellow Commissioners on a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Office of National Security at its headquarters on Tower Hill in Freetown as part of ongoing preparations for the country\u2019s 2028 Multi-Tier Elections.<\/b><\/p>\n
According to ECSL, the engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the electoral management body and national security institutions to ensure a peaceful, credible, and inclusive electoral process.<\/p>\n
Discussions during the meeting centred on strengthening election security frameworks, enhancing risk assessment and early warning systems, improving inter-agency coordination, addressing emerging digital threats to the electoral process, and protecting citizens\u2019 democratic rights and participation.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the engagement, Edmond Sylvester Alpha reaffirmed ECSL\u2019s commitment to working closely with security stakeholders ahead of the elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cA secure electoral environment is fundamental to credible elections. ECSL remains committed to working closely with our security partners to ensure that the 2028 general election is peaceful, inclusive, and trusted by all Sierra Leoneans,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
