Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Africa\u2019s national parks, which are home to thousands of species, including lions, elephants and buffalo, are increasingly threatened by low rainfall and new infrastructure projects, several experts warn.<\/p>\n

Endangered parks range from East Africa \u2013 namely the Tsavo and Nairobi parks in Kenya \u2013 to Southern Africa \u2013 Mkomazi and Serengeti in Tanzania, Quirimbas and Gorongosa in Mozambique or Kruger in South Africa \u2013 and even West Africa \u2013 Kahuzi Biega, Salonga and Virunga in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).<\/p>\n

In addition to protecting species of flora and fauna, these parks also serve as natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide and reducing the effects of global warming.<\/p>\n

According to Ken Mwathe, from the environmental organization BirdLife International, quoted by Lusa, it is estimated that 38% of Africa\u2019s biodiversity areas are under severe threat due to climate change and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
