Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. <\/strong><\/span>Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi defended Monday that the country is in a position to become an \u201ceconomic force\u201d on the African continent and in the world, and should capitalize on the potential it has in various sectors and promote internationalization.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must compete, through the constant search for higher levels of value creation [in production], bringing quality and selling the Mozambique brand well, as an economic force in the region and in the world\u201d, stated Nyusi.<\/p>\n

The Mozambican head of state was speaking during the opening speech of the 57th edition of the Maputo International Fair (Facim), which started today in Marracuene district, Maputo province.<\/p>\n

According to Filipe Nyusi, the availability of arable land, hydrographic basins, access to the sea, weather conditions for tourism, mineral and hydrocarbon resources put the African country in a privileged position to achieve \u201cfood autonomy and industrial sovereignty\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur intention is to take the leap towards economic autonomy\u201d, emphasized Filipe Nyusi.<\/p>\n

For the country\u2019s economic affirmation, he continued, national companies must focus on internationalization, conquering the Southern African market and other parts of the world.<\/p>\n

This objective will be achieved through quality production and based on the export of finished products with added value, instead of concentrating exports on raw materials.<\/p>\n

Filipe Nyusi pointed out that strengthening the national production base is important for reducing the imbalance of the external account, characterized by a greater weight of imports compared to exports.<\/p>\n

In this perspective, Nyusi emphasized that the Mozambican economy has been showing signs of recovery in relation to the slowdown caused by the covid-19 pandemic, in the last two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur economy shows a trend of sustained recovery that started in the period after the slowdown of the Covid-19 pandemic, having accelerated to 4.14% in the first quarter of the current year, above the expected annual average\u201d, he highlighted quoted by Lusa.<\/p>\n
