Free State domestic violence incident ends with husband dead - wife arrested

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A fight between a Free State couple resulted in the death of the 46-year-old husband, and the arrest of his 32-year-old wife.

The woman was arrested in Namahadi, Frankfort, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Spokesperson for the Fezile Dabi District police Captain Malebo Khosana said members were on duty on Sunday when they received a complaint that there was a fight between a wife and husband at a house in Phahameng Section.

“A police member who attended the scene said he found the woman sitting on a chair holding her husband, who was on the ground outside the house.

“The police member said he noticed the husband was bleeding from the mouth and had sustained an open wound on the chest,” said Khosana.

The 46-year-old husband was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.

According to Khosana when the police interviewed the wife about what had happened, the wife could not give a clear account on how the victim had sustained the fatal injury.

There were three children in the house at the time aged between two and 15.

From what Khosana could gather from the wife’s allegations she and her husband fought outside their house.

“The wife then said a group of people entered the yard to rescue her from her husband and moments after that she saw her husband falling down.

“The group of people according to the wife then ran away,” said Khosana.

Later that day the wife was arrested and charged with the alleged murder of her husband.

Further investigations are under way and the suspect will appear in court on Tuesday.

Khosana said it had not yet been established what kind of wound the man had sustained.
