Groblersdal teen assault: Corrie Pretorius applies for bail, claims he was assaulted in prison

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The man accused of assaulting and pointing a firearm at a teenager in Groblersdal claims he was assaulted in prison and is living under the constant threat of a life-ending attack.

Corrie Pretorius appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He is applying for bail.

In an affidavit read out by his lawyer, advocate JJ Venter, Pretorius said he was assaulted while in custody.

“Due to the nature of the charges and the allegations as covered in detail by the media, my life is under threat in correctional services,” Pretorius said in his affidavit.

The affidavit read:

Pretorius added that he was deeply traumatised by what had transpired in prison and was faced with the constant threat of a life-ending attack in prison.

The State opposed bail and investigating officer Sergeant Jappie Skosana was called to the stand to give evidence.

Skosana testified that he was not told about the alleged attack on Pretorius while in custody.

He added that no case had been opened in relation to the alleged incident.

Skosana also testified that he believed Pretorius was safer in custody and said he believed the accused would be in danger if he were to be released on bail.

This was one of the points made in opposing bail.

Pretorius was charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and pointing a firearm.

According to police, an argument broke out between Pretorius and the teenager at a fish and chips outlet in town over the use of seasoning.

Pretorius allegedly demanded to use the seasoning first when an argument ensued.

In a video that appears to have captured part of the incident, Pretorius can be seen dragging the teenager around on the ground while carrying a firearm.

He then kicks and stamps on the boy, who lies helplessly on the ground.

The bail application continues.
