Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 24-year-old man has been arrested for the brazen murder of a KwaZulu-Natal cop.

Officers from the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Port Shepstone, the police’s Tactical Response Team, and the Umzimkhulu and Ibisi police stations arrested the man in connection with the murder of Sergeant Nokuthula Somani, 55.

Two female police officers gunned down in 2 days

Somani, who was stationed at Umzimkhulu police station, was at home on 29 April when gunmen stormed in and shot her, Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said on Tuesday.

Mhlongo added:

Shortly after the incident, Ibisi police launched a murder investigation, which was taken over by the Hawks.

“Intensive investigations led to the arrest of the suspect in Inhlabeni, Ibisi. More arrests are imminent,” Mhlongo said.

The man is expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
