Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 35-year-old man who set his wife and two kids alight in a shack in 2020 has been handed a hefty sentence for attempted murder, arson and contravention of a protection order.

Ace Ndlovu locked his 35-year-old wife and their two sons, aged four and five, inside their Mpumalanga shack, and set it alight, on 24 November 2020.

Residents assisted in extinguishing the fire and taking the victims to a hospital.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala, Ndlovu was arrested when officers arrived on the scene and placed under police guard as he had also sustained burn wounds.

He was charged with three counts of attempted murder, arson, and contravention of a protection order.

Ndlovu appeared in the Carolina Regional Court on 18 July and was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment.

Mohlala said he received 10 years for attempted murder and arson, and three years for contravention of the protection order.
