Africa-Press – South-Africa. North West EFF secretary-general Papiki Babuile says the party is in the dark about possible motives that could have led to the murder of its Rustenburg PR councillor, Tsietsi Muhalatsi.
“We don’t know what could have been the motive because he was a humble and committed councillor of the EFF. For the EFF, this was the first incident, so we were shocked. This incident surprised us,” he said.
He said the party would rely on residents to alert police to any leads.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the Ward 43 councillor was shot and killed on Tuesday by unknown assailants.
Passers-by found Muhalatsi’s body in his white Nissan Navara bakkie at Freedom Park informal settlement near Phokeng and alerted police.
“The motive of the incident is yet to be determined, and investigations are still under way,” said Mokgwabone, adding that no arrests had yet been made.
He said Muhalatsi had gunshot wounds to his upper body.
