Two suspected robbers shot dead after high-speed car chase

Africa-Press – South-Africa. A high-speed car chase in Newlands East, KwaZulu-Natal ended in the death of two armed robbery suspects on Friday.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, a group of armed men robbed a courier vehicle on the M7, near Edwin Swales Drive and made off with a large quantity of valuable goods.

“A description of the vehicle used in the armed robbery was circulated and [it] was later spotted travelling in the Newlands East area.”

Naicker said police pursued the vehicle and that the robbers opened fire.

“The suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a barrier. They abandoned their vehicle and continued to shoot at police officers whilst fleeing on foot.”

Two of them were shot dead and an unconfirmed number escaped.

Naicker said the investigation would continue.

“Detectives believe that the men are linked to numerous robberies in the Ethekwini area,” he added.
