Africa-Press – South-Africa. A North West man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl.
Ratiki Radebe was sentenced in the Taung Regional Court on Wednesday.
Radebe raped the girl from Kolong village, near Taung, several times between December 2020 and March 2021.
He was not a stranger to the girl’s family, as he worked at a cattle post not far from their home, said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
He said Radebe had often asked to charge his phone at the girl’s house and sometimes offered them milk.

Mamothame said the girl had told her mother about the rape after she spent the night at Radebe’s home.
“In mitigation, the accused said living with the knowledge that he took the victim’s virginity is punishment. He further told the court that the victim approached him and requested to be his second wife,” he added.
Prosecutor Tecia Khula urged Magistrate Bhuti Zulu to give Radebe a hefty sentence for violating a child.
