Africa-Press – South-Africa. A 62-year-old KwaZulu-Natal woman has been brutally murdered in her home in Stepmore Village, in the Underberg area.
The body of Mayvis Lieketseng Molefe was found in a pool of blood, and covered with a blanket, after she was brutally beaten.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said they had received a complaint of a murder on Sunday night and that it was being investigated by the Impendle police station.
“On arrival, they found the body of a 62-year-old woman with assault wounds on the body,” Gwala said.
Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza said Molefe’s body had only been discovered days after the attack.
Khoza said:
Molefe had lived alone and details about her murder remained sketchy, Khoza added.
The women’s body was discovered on Sunday by neighbours after they had not seen her for a few days.
Khoza said the “absolute brutality” of the crime was shocking and “beyond belief”.
She pointed to a disturbing upward trend in the “levels of aggression afflicting older persons”.
“We urge communities to always play their role to protect the most vulnerable people in their respective villages. We are both angered and saddened by the barbaric murder of people who are the pride of our nation.”
Khoza called on law enforcement agencies to work around the clock to track down those responsible.
