Africa-Press – South-Africa. One person was arrested after a woman and her three children were found hacked to death in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga, on Friday.
Mpumalanga’s acting MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Speedy Mashilo, said police had arrested one person, who was expected to appear in the Mkhondo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mashilo applauded police for the swift arrest.
“The efforts of the police on the case will go a long way towards ensuring that justice is served. Although we won’t bring the victims back, the families of the victims will find closure once those who are responsible are punished,” Mashilo said.
News24 reported that police officers found the bodies of a 47-year-old woman, her 11-year-old twin sons and six-year-old daughter at a home in Phola Park. A bloodied axe was found in the house.
Police said officers arrived at the house on Friday, around 22:25, after relatives were unable to get hold of the family. The victims were allegedly last seen alive on Tuesday.
Police found the body of one of the twin sons in the kitchen, while the bodies of the mother, the other son and her daughter, as well as the axe, were found in one of the bedrooms.
“Surprisingly, their four-roomed house was locked from the outside, raising suspicions that the heartless attacker locked them in after the gruesome murders,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
