Africa-Press – South-Africa. Mpumalanga police are trying to establish the identities of four people who were suspected to have been killed in vigilante attacks in Sifunindlela Trust, Khumbula and Clau-Clau on Friday.
It is believed that the attacks are linked, but police are still investigating the matter.
Three of the six deceased are believed to have committed a robbery at a liquor outlet in Emvangati.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said Kabokweni police first responded to a report that three people had been assaulted in Sifunindlela Trust, next to Bhuga.
They also discovered that a house had been burnt down.
“Two victims were certified dead by medical practitioners on the scene and the third person was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries,” said Mohlala.
Police had a tough time, Mohlala said, because several community members crowded the scene and obstructed police from performing their duties.
Mohlala said:
“Two hours later, police received another [piece of] information about [a] sixth body, which was found in the bushes at Clau-Clau.”
The first three victims are believed to be linked to the armed robbery of the liquor outlet in Emvangati.
“Police cannot link the other three murders to the robbery and hope an intense investigation will reveal the real cause. Only two victims have been identified so far, and the other four remain unknown,” Mohlala said.
Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands and to allow justice to take its course.
“Other people might be victimised for hidden agendas by their accusers and end up losing their lives for crimes they never committed,” she said.
