Snow and icy weather hits Eastern Cape

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Cold, windy and wet conditions will persist in the Eastern Cape as very cold conditions, and the possibility of snow, are expected over parts of the province on Thursday.

Disruptive snow fell over the southern Drakensberg, particularly the Senqu and Elundini local municipalities, resulting in the isolated loss of vulnerable livestock and crops, as well as traffic disruptions.

The SA Weather Service said the cold weather experienced in parts of the Eastern Cape was the result of a cold front which passed through on Thursday. On Thursday, the weather office issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds over much of the Eastern Cape interior.

“A frosty morning, otherwise slightly windy weather, with a recovery in daytime temperatures is expected on Friday as another cold front approaches the country,” said forecaster Lelo Kleinbooi.

Windy conditions are expected across the province on Saturday, with a chance of showers and rain along the south coast during the latter part of the day.

Slightly windy conditions are expected in places on Sunday, otherwise generally fine and cold weather can be expected.
