Cops recover stolen railway track worth R3m in Mpumalanga, 3 men arrested

Africa-Press – South-Africa. Three men caught transporting a stolen railway track worth R3 million have been arrested.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the provincial Anti-Gang Unit and Middleburg highway patrol stopped a suspicious truck on the N4 in Middleburg and arrested three men, aged between 41 and 51, for possession of stolen goods.

Mohlala added the track was reported stolen in Barberton last month.

A probe ensued, with the team using the information they received during the investigation to foil the transportation of stolen infrastructure to an unknown destination.

“The truck with its consignment and other items were confiscated for further investigation.

“The trio was charged with possessing suspected stolen property,” said Mohlala.

He added two of the men did not have valid documentation and were additionally charged with contravening the Immigration Act.

The trio will appear in the Middleburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
