EThekwini municipality says it is reclaiming hijacked buildings in Durban CBD

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality said it had started to reclaim hijacked buildings in the Durban CBD.

Earlier in August, the Public Works Ministry raised concerns about the state of some buildings because they were becoming a place for criminals.

On Monday, Minister Dean Macpherson met with the metro to take a closer look at the issues.

He was joined by eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba.

“Our teams have identified 76 buildings which are derelict, abandoned, hijacked, and overcrowded. Of these, 58 are privately owned, and 18 are government-owned buildings, and this is where we require the intervention of the minister.”
