Mop-up operations continuing in KZN after snow, says provincial govt

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The KwaZulu-Natal government said that mop-up operations continue in the province following a weekend of devastating snowfall.

Hundreds of people were stranded in knee-deep snow for more than 12 hours this past weekend.

While all routes have been opened and essential infrastructure reconnected, the provincial government has urged motorists to drive safely.

Cooperative Governance spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila: “The cleanup operations include the reconnection of services following the disruption that was caused by the snow storm.”

Meanwhile, search and rescue teams remain on standby.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyerick: “Water levels are expected to rise rapidly as the snow begins to melt. Residents and local communities are urged to remain vigilant as flooding remains a high possibility.”
