SACP says gains of SA freedom slowly being eroded by the GNU

Africa-Press – South-Africa. With the Government of National Unity (GNU) having completed 100 days in office, the South African Communist Party (SACP) said the gains of the country’s freedom were slowly being eroded.

The SACP, who is the African National Congress (ANC)’s alliance partner, has been opposed to the GNU, particularly to the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s inclusion.

On Monday, the party joined the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) during a march to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton.

SACP Secretary-General Solly Mapaila said this was the first salvo of resistance to the GNU.

“The neoliberal Government of National Unity is already showing real signs that it is not willing to listen to the interests of the workers. We have seen this already in the bargaining system. Our country has been returned to the hands of Boers, and we cannot let anyone, even the government, justify this.”
