Africa-Press – South-Africa. The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial government has also decided to target spaza shops, in a bid to ensure compliance, following several incidents of suspected food poisoning.
Over 50 pupils have recently been hospitalised due to food poisoning.
Premier Thami Ntuli said three people had died due to suspected food poisoning in KZN.
“We were very saddened to receive a report concerning an unfortunate incident involving suspected food poisoning in the Cambana area in uMzumbe under Ugu District where three children died, and their grandmother hospitalised.”
He said all victims were children.
“It is reported that even the family dog had eaten the same food and died. The three victims are children aged 2, 6 and 11 years old.”
