Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday participate in the launch of a renewables campaign at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil is wrapping up its rotating presidency of the Global South this week, during which time it has prioritised social inclusion.
The summit is being held under the theme ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet’.
The G20 is the premier forum for global economic cooperation and governance, representing 85% of global gross domestic product (GDP).
South Africa will officially be handed the G20 presidency this week under the rallying call of solidarity, equality, and sustainability.
The bloc, which represents 75% of the world’s population, is a vehicle for promoting multilateral cooperation by bringing together the world’s leading economies to ensure global economic stability and sustainable growth.
The Presidency said Ramaphosa will hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Leaders’ Summit in the coming days.
South Africa is the only African nation that is part of the bloc, which includes 19 countries as well as the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU).
The Presidency said South Africa’s participation in the G20 seeks to provide strategic direction in establishing a more equitable, representative, and fit-for-purpose international order.
On Monday, Ramaphosa will deliver South Africa’s statements at the various plenary sessions.
