Africa-Press – South-Africa. President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at the Port of Ngqura in the Eastern Cape, where he is conducting an oversight visit of its operations.

Situated 20km north of Gqeberha, the port is known as one of the fastest growing on the continent in the last 15 years.

Ramaphosa’s visit is the first item on Cabinet’s two-day visit to the Eastern Cape.

As you drive into the Port of Ngqura in Nelson Mandela Bay, the first sight that greets you is a line of cargo vessels docked along the bay.

Bright red and yellow containers are being carefully offloaded from the ships, while trucks wait in line to transport them to their destinations, a typical scene at the bustling port.

The current port handles around 2 million containers annually. However, Transnet has plans to expand its capacity to at least 2.3 million containers per year.

The expansion is projected to boost employment at the terminal, increasing the number of jobs to 5,060 by 2030, with a focus on logistics and manufacturing.
