Africa-Press – South-Africa. The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says it hopes the addition of new members to its ranks will bolster its efforts to ensure political stability for the country’s official opposition, as it sets its sights on next year’s local government elections.
The MK Party welcomed some fresh faces this past week, including former President Jacob Zuma’s son, Edward.
The addition of Edward Zuma and the former African National Congress (ANC) treasurer of the Zululand region, Nhlakanipho Sibisi, to the party’s ranks was announced at a media briefing in Eshowe, in northern KZN.
MK Party’s KZN convenor, Willies Mchunu, was also there.
Edward addressed supporters in the room, squashing concerns that the party is a family affair.
“MKP is not a Zuma stokvel, I must correct this thing. It so happens that President Zuma is instrumental in it, but it’s not. It’s an organisation, and if you understand the documents of the MK Party, then you will understand.”
