New Evidence Implicates Mkhize Family in Corruption

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) said the new evidence in the Digital Vibes corruption scandal implicates family members of former health minister, Zweli Mkhize.

The unit has been granted approval by the special tribunal to introduce new evidence in its case.

The new evidence is expected to detail how public funds were allegedly laundered through dodgy business transactions.

The Digital Vibes contract was originally intended to support public awareness campaigns for the National Health Insurance (NHI) and COVID-19 pandemic.

But the SIU alleges the procurement process was irregular and the money ultimately benefited Mkhize’s family.

SIU spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago: “We were supposed to have the hearing on the 11th and the 12th of August of the main case. But in the process of doing that, there was new evidence that was brought our way. We had to then go and investigate and we found there are more people where the money went to and there are more and more institutions who did not do any work but the money was sent to them.”

Kganyago said the new evidence would bolster its case.

“Therefore, in order for us to bring them into the matter as respondents, we then had to do this affidavit to the tribunal to make sure it is part of this case, so that we can then cite these people, and be in a position to recover once the contract is set aside.”
