Africa-Press – South-Africa. International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola said his department is committed to see South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) through to its conclusion.
Lamola revealed this while briefing Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on International Relations, Cooperation and Justice on Wednesday, regarding South Africa’s case
to find Israel guilty of the Rome Statute on genocide.
South Africa has already submitted its main arguments to the ICJ, alleging Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
Several other countries including Brazil, Spain, Turkey and the Republic of Ireland, have asked to intervene in the case.
Lamola said the case could have a potential outcome that will resonate beyond Israel and Palestine.
The minister said the case has a direct impact on how international law and international humanitarian law is applied.
“South Africa will continue to act within institutions of global governance to protect the rights, including the fundamental right to life for Palestinians in Gaza, and of all people in conflict areas.”
