Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Western Cape Mobility Department is urging Cape Town rival taxi associations CATA and CODETA to resume talks to end the impasse between them.
This as day 9 of a 30-day taxi route shutdown from Mfuleni and Khayelitsha to Somerset West comes to an end.
CODETA has approached the courts to challenge this decision by the provincial government.
That matter is expected to be heard at the high court on Friday.
Provincial Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku has thanked commuters for their patience during this period.
“As we enter day 9 of the 30-day route and lane closures and following a midweek public holiday, I am pleased to report that the situation on the affected routes and lanes remains calm, as per our monitoring systems. Law enforcement agencies remain deployed to ensure the enforcement of measures.”
